OCEN 681 Seminar. (0-2). Credit 1. Reports and discussion of current research and selected published technical articles.
Course Objectives
To introduce ocean engineering graduate students to current research topics in the field of ocean engineering through:
- Seminars given by practicing ocean engineers and researchers
- Seminars hosted by ocean engineering faculty and graduate students
- Tours of on-campus research facilities
- Seminar discussions related to all aspects of the ocean engineering profession.

Method of Evaluation
Your grade for this class will be pass or fail based on your attendance of the seminars. If you miss more than two seminars without a university excused absence (see Attendance section below), you will be required to write a 10 page research paper on the topic of one of the seminars that you missed in order to receive a grade of pass.

Your attendance at the seminars will be recorded by a sign-in sheet that you will be asked to sign at each seminar. It will be considered cheating and result in a failing grade if you 1) ask someone else to sign in for you at a seminar that you missed or 2) if you sign in for someone who is not present at one of the seminars.
Attendance
The university views class attendance as an individual student responsibility. Students are expected to attend class and to complete all assignments. Instructors are expected to give adequate notice of the dates on which major tests will be given and assignments will be due. This information should be provided on the course syllabus, which should be distributed at the first class meeting. Please contact me as soon as you know you will miss a seminar so that a reasonable alternative can be accommodated. Unexcused absences will result in a grade of zero for the missed work. The instructor is under no obligation to provide an opportunity for the student to make up work missed because of an unexcused absence.
